According to Michael Medved, CBS just stated that the memos were "accurate." Drudge reports just now:
Statement by the President of CBS News, Andrew Heyward: "We established to our satisfaction that the memos were accurate or we would not have put them on television. There was a great deal of coroborating [sic] evidence from people in a position to know. Having said that, given all the questions about them, we believe we should redouble our efforts to answer those questions, so that's what we are doing."The announcement didn't say anything about their obvious lack of authenticity. According to today's NY Observer, Dan Rather is asking (begging) President Bush to "answer the questions."
Tell you what, Dan: I'll just forge some documents that "prove" you're a serial child molester. I'll get the unsworn testimony of some people who hate your guts and others who are your direct competitors - who, of course, I won't name - and I'll SWEAR that the documents are "accurate." Let's ignore the fact that they're the centerpiece of my "proof."
With all due respect, ANSWER THE QUESTIONS DAN. ANSWER THEM!
Bernie Goldberg was right. Arrogance. Pure, unadulterated arrogance.
UPDATE: Of course, I was beaten to the punch (barely) by the necktied professionals.
